In local voting, Citrus County commissioners Gary Bartell and John Thrumston were defeated in Tuesday's primary elections, as well as State Rep. Ron Schultz.
According to the numbers, Bartell was defeated by John J. 'JJ' Kenney, Thrumston was defeated by Rebecca Bays and Schultz was defeated by Jimmie T. Smith.
In the race for County Commission District 2, longtime commissioner Bartell gathered 7,813 votes (45.1%). In the three-way race for County Commission District 4, winner Rebecca Bays received 8,881 votes (50.5%); Donald P. Sterling received 8,881 votes (50.5%) and incumbent Thrumston received 5,539 votes (31.5%). And in the race for State Rep. 43, challenger Jimmie T. Smith received 14,368 votes (51.3%), and incumbent Schultz received 13,595 votes (48.6%).
In another local race, District 1 School Board, Thomas Kennedy outdistanced Lou Miele. Kennedy received 15,726 votes (56.5%), while Miele received 12,086 votes (43.4%).
In the race for Circuit Judge 5, Group 1, Denise A. Dymond Lyn was the winner over Robert W. Hodges (However, Hodges went on to win the contest in districtwide voting results). Lyn received 14,111 votes (51.7%), and Hodges received 13,149 votes (48.2%).

While many Citrus County residents spent their Friday getting ready for the weekend, the county's Fire Rescue Services personnel marked the day as the start of a new service that will see Fire Rescue
WELLINGTON - Representatives Joseph Abruzzo (D-Wellington) and Lori Berman (D-Delray Beach) have teamed up with Senator Thad Altman (R-Melbourne) to sponsor legislation that aims to encourage public school educators in Florida to teach the significance of Sept. 11, 2001.
Another crack found has been found at the Crystal River Nuclear Power plant.
The county on Tuesday unanimously approved the beginning of the process of studying Port Citrus for economic viability.
The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce Crystal River Area Council will hold a town hall on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
