The boating accident that claimed the life of a Homosassa businessman on Aug. 21 remains under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Robert Wade Phillips, 48, who died in the accident was operating a 39-foot pleasure craft, traveling up the river with nine passengers on board.
While traveling near channel marker 19, Phillips veered outside of the channel, FWC investigators said. During an evasive maneuver to return to the channel, the vessel capsized and ejected all occupants.
The passengers were taken to the River Haven Marina by other boaters and were met by Citrus County emergency personnel. The nine passengers were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, but Phillips was killed.
The nine passengers were:
- April Karen Phillips, 43, Homosassa
- Wade Phillips, 18, Homosassa
- Aspen Phillips, 15, Homosassa
- Roberta G. Anderson, 15, Homosassa
- Payton Anderson Valls, 20, Homosassa
- Samautha Pauley, 16, Beverly Hills
- Reid Paul Callahan, 16, Homosassa
- Delaney Jean Owens, 15, Homosassa
- Lester Kemp, 58, Homosassa
Robert Phillips' body was transported to the District 5 Medical Examiner's Office.
