Friends of wildlife park to host Easter egg hunt on April 3

HOMOSASSA – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, Inc. is planning a big Easter Egg Hunt event at the Wildlife Park on Saturday, April 3.

The event will be held on the green behind the parking area at the park’s Visitor Center and main entrance on U.S. 19.

Effective on Monday, the Beverly Hills Community Park began operating under new hours of operation.

The park, lat 997 W. Roosevelt Boulevard in Beverly Hills, will open at dawn and close at dusk.

Beverly Hills Community Park gets new operating hours

The Beverly Hills Community Park will have new operating hours effective March 1.

The park, lat 997 W. Roosevelt Boulevard in Beverly Hills, will remain open seven days a week, but the new hours will be from dawn to dusk.

The change in hours comes because of continuing vandalism in the park.

Lu the Hippopotamus finally turned 50 today.

The occasion was marked by a cake, a tire and a gallery of spectators of both adults and children at the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

Homosasa park to host Wildlife Jeopardy Program

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will host a Wildlife Jeopardy program from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 in in the park's Education Center.

Wildlife Jeopardy programs are scheduled through May 2010.

This Key deer fawn was born Friday morning at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

Volunteer Joe Dube was able to get these photos that morning.

Mother and her chihuahua-sized baby are doing fine.

Key deer are an endangered species, native to Florida, and are one of several examples of endangered species that can be seen at the wildlife park.
