FLORAL CITY - The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has opened a death investigation after a Floral City man died following an argument with another man last month.

On Aug. 29, Sidney David Moody, 47, was at a residence at 12559 S. Istachatta Road in the early morning hours.

He and an acquaintance, Jeremiah Hollifield, 27, also of Floral City, had been drinking when an argument erupted. A short altercation ensued, with Moody falling backward and striking his head on the asphalt.

The unconscious victim, who had a laceration to the back of his head, was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa for treatment. He died there shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

The case remains under active investigation.

Citrus County detectives will be reviewing the case file with the state attorney’s office to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
