The District Board of Trustees of the College of Central Florida bestowed two honors on retiring President Charles R. Dassance, Ph.D., at its June 2 meeting.
Dassance was named president emeritus and the Ocala Campus auditorium was renamed the Charles R. Dassance Fine Arts Center.
Dassance, who has been president of CF since November 1996, announced in March that he would retire this summer. He will finish his service at the end of June.
“I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor,” said Board Chair Cory Pool regarding the President Emeritus status. “And the auditorium is an appropriate place to prominently display the name of a president who has served the college well.”
The board has begun the process to select a new president. A consultant has been hired to assist with the search, a committee has been selected representing the college constituencies, and a profile has been developed to identify qualifications and characteristics for the next CF president.
Dr. Henry Goodlett, who served as CF president from 1966 to 1987, was also named president emeritus upon his retirement.
