Citrus Clowns have a NEW APPRENTICE CLOWN ! Join us in welcoming Zani Bandani (aka Debra Boydston). Zani has completed her basic clown training in the classroom and is now ready for work at events with Citrus Clowns. At all events, Zani will be accompanied by various experienced clowns, for the remainder of her training with Citrus Clowns, under our Apprentice Clown Training Program. After events training is fully completed , at her own pace, Zani will then graduate and become a REAL CLOWN .
Zani`s classroom private tutoring by Jewels The Clown (aka Mary K. Hall), assisted by Dr. Yar (aka Ray Thompson, Citrus Clowns balloons artist), was enjoyed by trainee and trainers. Zani is a delightful person and clown , she even provided us with some training ! Thank you Zani , for sharing your new hobby, American Sign Language basics with us ! ( Zani is a good teacher, also ).
While entertaining the public is great FUN for clowns and for those being entertained, there is much work in any clown group , which is ongoing , “behind the scenes”, out of the sight of the public. Some of the most rewarding advanced work for experienced clowns, is in the basic training of apprentice clowns. As the training of persons , who desire to become clowns and working with them , as they evolve into real clowns , with their own wonderful clown personality and character, is a special joy for the experienced clowns who are their instructors, mentors and trainers in the art of clowning.
Way down below, included with Debra Boydston`s permission, is the autobiography of Zani Bandani, please read of this delightful clown character, whom you will soon meet at Citrus Clowns events.
Thank you Debbie, Clown Zani , for sharing your new clown information with us !

AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF CLOWN ZANI BANDANI , (aka Debra Boydston & authored by her) .
Hi....My name is Zani Bandani. My name comes from the many bandanas I have collected and use all the time. My age is fighting-adulthood. My gender is la TomBoy du femme. I was born as a Capricorn under the Big Top to J.S. High Pockets and Flying Rocco. High Pockets is a wonderful clown who taught me all about clown life and a most magnificent mother who taught me all about real life! Flying Rocco was a trapeze artist who literally flew in and out of our lives all during my childhood. The longest time he was around culminated in the birth of my litte sister, Cleanwater Flow. Flow went on to marry well, to Pamlico Joe, and they presently have their own little clown going off to clown school this year (Jakemeister). They are entertainers too. We have many talents in our family! My stepdad is Petamus, an old Navy guy who went on to be an acrobat. Unfortunately he injured himself awhile back and is no longer performing. He and High Pockets stay busy tending their farm now and are a great match!
My favorite color is ‘rainbow’ because it is spectral. I like most foods, but my favorite is PASTA, I guess because when I was a kid clown that was a staple as it was inexpensive (and Rocco is Italian), but I will never turn away SEAFOOD. I love all fruits and most vegetables, but I will not eat mystery meat (ugh)! My pet peeve is people who try to serve me mystery meat (ugh)!
My favorite game is “stump the clown” and my favorite holiday is HALLOWEEN with Christmas Eve coming in a close second. Summer is my favorite season and I spend most of it in the water. I have two best friends...Jane the Pain from Maine and Dizzy Lizzy. I feel blessed to have these two clowns in my life.
Schooling was done under the Big Top. Everyone in this extended family helps teach the little ones. My formal clown training came from an awesome clown named Jewels and I can only hope to live up to her expectations. I help out by doing some typing for the King Clown (I have very fast fingers!).
I have three pets....a wonderdog named Monkey, a voodoo kitty named MoJo, and a batty bird named Reggie. They are wonderful companions.
I travel around in my little clown car named Gertrude. It honks, but my nose doesn’t. Very little frightens me, except maybe mystery meat sandwiches.
I am married to my clown soulmate, Randival. He can fix ANYTHING (or at least make it work) and he’s a wonderful cook—he can cook any pasta you want! We live in a little clown house on a beautiful river. We are water-loving people and came to the south to be near the ocean. We like to go to the beach and beat our drums. We live on vacation!
I love music and have so many favorite songs I couldn’t possibly list them all. My favorite movies are zany comedies and whimsical fantasies, and again have so many favorites I couldn’t list them all. We don’t watch television—it is too depressing.
I have won two awards...an Oscar for my dancing performance in The Man of La Macha and a customer appreciation award from The Damn Pub which I share with Randival.
Some modern-day clowns who have inspired me are: Johnny Depp (borrowing from Buster Keaton), Jackie Chan (along with Martial Arts, he’s a master at physical comedy), Jim Carey (what a rubber face!), and a tie between Peter Sellers and Gerald Ford (the pratfall kings)! Everyone, however, is a teacher and everything in nature is an experience. Just look around and you will see something inspiring!!!
And, finally a favorite quote from the late, great David Niven (British actor 1910 – 1983): “Keep the circus going inside you, keep it going, don’t take anything too seriously, it’ll all work out in the end.”
