Hot! Hot! Hot! True, the sweltering weather during Florida summers can be daunting. Citrus Clowns take a hiatus somewhat, when the temperature gets into the high nineties. With our clown costumes, wigs, hats, and makeup, it is almost humanly unbearable to be working outside events wearing all that clowns find necessary to be clowns.
Also, some clowns take long vacations, some go north for several months and others are busy with other volunteer work. Altogether, this means we have fewer clowns available for working events in the hottest part of the year. Therefore, Citrus Clowns work fewer summer events. Have no fear ! Some of us do clown for some outside summer events, but we must be mindful and extra careful of the extreme heat. Those who are truly smitten by the art of clowning and love clowning with their very being, clown anyway, no matter how hot it is. No, the heat does not stop clowns !
“Dr.” Yar and Jewels The Clown, clowned for a mostly inside event today. One of our community blood collection centers had a “luau” tropical party theme for a cookout and fun for their donors, we clowns added to the fun and entertained the children and adults, for those adults waiting to donate blood. Of course, we had fun and the food was great ! The sporadic rain kept us inside mostly. Although, Jewels was seen out front by the highway, dancing with red/white/blue balloons and waving to the drivers and passengers in the vehicles. Of course, they tooted their horns and waved, as they couldn`t overlook Jewels, in a patriotic red/white and blue costume, and with that flaming red wig/hair she couldn`t be ignored. That clown does garner attention and she knows that clown advertising is good for business ! Or for getting your attention to give blood. Some of them did give blood !
The “gift of life” = BLOOD, is precious and those donors know how important it is to donate, as often as they can. The blood centers request clowns several times a year to add “clown fun” for their events. Citrus Clowns are pleased to take part in their festivities. Some of our clowns are blood donors, so the blood centers get a bonus from Citrus Clowns.
