Clowning Around - Citrus Clowns on Parade! (Parades, that is !)

You betcha ! Citrus Clowns have been busy parading during this holiday season. Three major parades were hilarious fun, as clowns love parades. One parade is good, three are even better.
( We hope to have our parades photos in the Citrus Clowns photo gallery soon .) Thanks to Mr. Douglas for photos of Jewels The Clown, which he has recently posted in the Inverness Christmas Parade 2009 and earlier in the Inverness Veterans Day Parade November, 2009 .

Try pirates on for size, we did ! The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Crystal River 2009 Night Christmas Parade theme was: “A Pirates Christmas”. Citrus Clowns went all out, as each clown became a “pirate clown”. We looked the part , pirate costumes & pirate hats, complete with eye patches and pirate swords . Our parade car, became a “pirate ship” , with skulls and crossbones everywhere. The Jolly Roger and other pirate flags and paraphernalia completed the theme . What fun we had ! Who knew “pirating “ by clowns was such fun ? We even had fun decorating the ship/car ! The crowd seemed to love pirate clowns !

In the pirate ship/car, furnished and driven by Pirate Clown Sunny (aka Vicky Iozzia) with eye patch, and pirate vest and jaunty pirate hat along with her puppet boys Pirate Big Sunny and Pirate Little Sunny, who were dressed as proper pirates, with darling hats, a fearsome threesome ! The Christmas music provided by Clown Sunny added to the festive air of the parade. Riding along were: Pirate Clown Angel (aka Helen Russ), with pirate hat and vest, not a bit “angelic looking”, pirate guest N. Russ and pirate guest W. Russ, both in appropriate pirate costumes , both brandishing wicked looking swords and knives . Strolling along behind the ship/car was Pirate Clown Bo (aka Nelva Clemans), with her bandanna, eye patch, sash and pirate sword, dressed as a male pirate. Pirate Jewels The Clown (aka Mary K. Hall) was a lady pirate , who danced along behind the ship/car, brandishing her bejeweled sword. Of course, Jewels always wears scads of jewelry and outlandish costumes. Her pirate costume was a black full skirt and black satin blouse with a red sparking bustier, red/black striped tights and black knee high boots, with a pirate jeweled hat, adorning her bright red hair/wig.

The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Inverness 2009 Christmas Parade theme was : “It`s a Jungle Out There, Lions, Tigers and Bears ”. Of course, this jungle animal theme provided Citrus Clowns with the perfect opportunity to fill Clown Sunny`s parade car with clown jungle animals , including a huge teddy bear and with a huge Sponge Bob as their keeper. Surely you don`t expect that clowns would miss a chance to “jazz up” the parade with a funny jungle theme. It was fun decorating the jungle car, also.

Clown Sunny (aka Vicky Iozzia) clowned along the parade route, drove the jungle car, played the Christmas music and was assisted by puppet boy Big Sunny. Strolling behind the car was Clown Bo The Hobo, (aka Nelva Clemans) our lady tramp clown, in a jungle theme hobo costume, she looked so cute ! Jewels The Clown (aka Mary K. Hall), costumed in a very brightly colored clown Christmas Jungle Birds theme sequined vest, red/silver trimmed satin skirt and blue bubble blouse, red with black polka dot tights and red/white/green Christmas socks, red shoes, multicolored petticoats, and with a fancy, gold top hat on her red hair/wig. Jewels danced and pranced along behind the car with Little Sunny. How they love parade crowds ! Jewels was honored to have puppet boy Little Sunny, dance and parade with her and accept accolades from the crowd, along the parade route. The crowd loves Clown Sunny`s puppets ! So does Jewels ! (Thanks to Clown Sunny for allowing Little Sunny to accompany Jewels in this parade. )
Also, a special "thank you" to A. Ama- - - - for taking the video of Citrus Clowns in this parade and supplying us with it.

This was a special day for Jewels, as she received a wonderful birthday surprise, when her beloved family visited her, while waiting for the parade to begin. Jewels`s family had never seen Jewels perform before, they probably were surprised , also ! After the parade, Clown Sunny treated Jewels to a surprise birthday lunch. It was a great, fun day !

Citrus Clowns are always thrilled to be invited to perform in the Christmas Parade sponsored by the Citrus Springs Civic Association Youth Committee and after the parade at the Wesley Jones Park in Citrus Springs. The Citrus Springs 2009 Christmas Parade theme was “A White Christmas”. Many thanks to this Association for their generous donation to the Friends of NCVC for Citrus Clowns.
It is an honor to clown for the Citrus Springs community, as they go beyond appreciation of Citrus Clowns with their reception of our clowning. The parade route is almost 2 miles long, mostly through residential areas. The crowd along the route and at the park, is so responsive to our performing, and as we are always so well received, we truly are in “clown heaven”. Thank you Citrus Springs citizens, we love you all, also !

Citrus Clowns all rode in this parade in a snow flake decorated clown car with big pictures of Sesame Street Muppets & a big Santa picture, a Sponge Bob figure , a huge teddy bear, and two huge Christmas stockings. Clown Sunny (aka Vicky Iozzia) drove her car, playing music and wearing her Sunny clown suit and a beautiful red sequined hat, and Christmas jewelry. Riding in front with her, was Clown Bo, (aka Nelva Clemans) costumed as “Mrs. Santa”. You`d never have recognized her , as the hobo lady tramp clown, was not evident that day. She was a beautiful Christmas character instead , totally dressed and made up for the part of “Mrs Santa”, who was a big hit with the crowd ! Close your eyes and imagine “ Mrs. Santa”, that`s exactly what she looked like. Jewels The Clown (aka Mary K. Hall), was elegantly costumed in red satin as a Christmas clown, with a Santa with sleigh sequined vest, red/white stripped tights, red shoes, and dripping with jewelry, while wearing a funny Christmas hat . The Christmas music was loud and great to dance to, even while standing in the back of the car, Jewels and Little Sunny danced while Big Sunny stood and smiled and pleased the crowd . Those puppets are a riot ! Crowds love them ! Everyone had a wonderful time at the parade ! The after parade clown fun and dancing with the children at the park was superb as always. What a glorious way to celebrate !

Many thanks to Clown Sunny (aka Vicky Iozzia ) for furnishing her convertible car and driving in all three parades and for playing the Christmas music.
