The Citrus County Sheriff's Office says that the arrest of two brothers lays to rest a string of commercial burglaries that stretched along the U.S. 41 corridor from Floral City to Hernando.
Arrested today were Daniel Paul McKeown, 27, and his brother, Adam Michael McKeown, 22, both of whom lived in an apartment at 2555 E. Mary Lue St. in Inverness.
Both have amassed extensive rap sheets.
According to the arrest reports, the Sheriff's Office was alerted on July 26 to a number of burglaries that had occurred.
The owner of Giovanni's Pizza reported that the business had been burglarized. Reported stolen was a karaoke machine, cash and a compound bow. Also reported stolen was a Tom Tom GPS unit from a company truck, which was reported by Morgan Environmental Enterprises.
On July 28, multiple commercial burglaries were reported in Hernando Plaza, and included Hernando Hearing Aids, FEDEX Pack and Post, Fabulous Flowers, Chef Anthony's and Frank's Family Restaurant. In each of the burglaries, a rear window had been pryed open and locks cut to gain entry, the CCSO says.
Chef Anthony's reported stolen cash, black Jack Daniels hat, a taser, a leatherman tool and a mag light. Frank's Family Restaurant reported the theft of a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver. No items were reported missing from Hernando Hearing aids and FEDEX Pack and Post; however, a lock was cut from a freezer at the rear of Fabulous Flowers. There was also damage done to the coin machine at the J&B Laundromat, which had been pried in an attempt to get access to the coins inside.
The CCSO was able to get surveillance video from one of the plaza's businesses, and shown were two males wearing bandanas to conceal their identity, the arrest reports say.
Also on July 28, Giovanni's owner told the CCSO that there had been a second burglary at his business. Entry had been made, but nothing was apparently taken, deputies determined.
On July 30, the owner of Kraus Dog House told deputies that his company's laptop had been stolen from his business, and his back door had been pried open.
Sheriff's deputies caught up to the McKeown brothers on Wednesday at the brothers' residence. Inside, deputies found a recumbent bicycle that had been stolen from the Suncoast Bicycle Shop in plain view. Also seen was a black Jack Daniels hat and leatherman tool on the kitchen table.
Both brothers were arrested and taken to the Citrus County jail.
After obtaining a search warrant, deputies returned to the brothers' apartment and searched it for any other items which had been reported stolen in the string of burglaries.
Among the items found in the search warrant were a black Jack Daniels hat, a taser, a leatherman tool, cash, a bag of loose coins, a laptop and a Tom Tom GPS unit.
Both brothers face a boatload of charges in two separate arrest reports filed on each brother.
Both have also been implicated in a number of other burglaries at commercial businesses, to include The Spot Thrift Store, the Wasabi Smoke Shop, the Floral City Laundromat and the Wishing Stone Tavern.
Adam McKeown was charged with burglary, grand and petit theft and criminal mischief in one arrest report, and bond was set at $43,000. In the second arrest report, his bond was set at $44,750.
Daniel McKeown was charged with burglary, grand theft, criminal mischief in one arrest report, and bond was set at $43,000, and bond was set at $44,750 in the second report.
