The Citrus County Commission today honored a 12-year-old boy for waking up his family when he was awakened on July 10 by the smell of smoke.
Cody Greenwell of Floral City was presented with a certificate of recognition for his actions during that fire.
"Cody was able to wake up and get his family members out of the house in time," County Administrator Brad Thorpe said as he read the commission's resolution, "and was commended by a firefighter who credited him with saving (his family's) lives."
"The Board of County Commissioners (does) hereby commend 12-year-old Cody Greenwell for his valiant act," the proclamation reads.
Cody's father said he wanted to thank the people who helped him, and that he appreciated all that was done for his family.
