Citrus County is the recipient of a $2.338 million grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to improve the county's transit system.
County Administrator Brad Thorpe told county commissioners today that it will be used to raze what is known as "Building 22" in Lecanto, and build a new one in its place, and to improve the parking lot.
Thorpe called it "an exciting moment" for county transportation, and county commissioners agreed.
"This is a positive for us," said Commissioner J.J. Kenney. He said that the event will be come a "I remember when" moment when looked upon in coming years. Commissioner Winn Webb said that the county has now come a long way since it ran its first county bus route. And Commissioner Joe Meek said using the money would represent giving back to the community.
Building 22 is a metal building on County Road 491, and in the 1970s was home to the county's zoning department.
