Citrus County’s unemployment rate has leveled off at 11.0 percent for the second month.
The figures were released today by the state’s Agency for Workforce Development Innovation (AFWI). The county’s April unemployment figure was also listed as at 11.0 percent.
In surrounding counties, Levy County’s rate also leveled off at 10.3 percent for April and May, Hernando County’s figure is at 12.9 percent for April and May, and Marion County’s unemployment rate for May was 11.9 percent, compared to it’s April rate of 12.1 percent.
Statewide, Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in May 2011 was 10.6 percent, the lowest since August 2009 when it was also 10.6 percent.
The AFWI said this represents 980,000 jobless out of a labor force of 9,249,000. The state’s unemployment rate is down 0.2 percentage point from the April 2011 rate of 10.8 percent and is 0.7 percentage point lower than the May 2010 rate of 11.3 percent.
Florida’s total nonagricultural employment in May 2011 is 7,238,300, an increase of 28,000 jobs (+0.4 percent) from April 2011. The number of jobs in the state is up 24,900 over the year, an increase of 0.3 percent from May 2010.
“Today’s announcement that unemployment continues to drop and businesses continue to add thousands of jobs shows that Florida’s economy is moving in the right direction,” said AFWI director Cynthia R. Lorenzo. “Our unemployment rate is now the lowest it has been in 21 months, and we can expect our state’s heightened focus on economic recovery to spur additional job growth in the months ahead.”
