The "Taste of Philly" restaurant in Crystal River has been the focus of a controversy over the city's flag ordinance.
Crystal River's City Council on Monday night voted 3-0 to suspend the city's flag ordinance code.
The controversial ordinance had prevented businesses from flying more than three flags.
An April 29 citation handed out to "Taste of Philly Steak" in Crystal River had brought the issue to light. The citation letter gave restaurant owner Linda Downey three days to correct the violation.
Interest in the citation escalated when local veterans' groups picked up the cause and challenged the ordinance around the flags, all patriotic, flying over the business. Jay Conti, Sr., American Legion representative, said "Downey has two sons, both members of American Legion Post 155 in Crystal River, and who have been deployed in war zones - and both serving on multiple tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and fighting the Somali pirates in operations off the coast of Somalia."
The ordinance will now be revised at some time in the future, following a review by the city's planning commission.
