Crystal River trash health hazard clean, county says

Citrus County on Jan. 12 put the finishing touches to the cleanup of a public health hazard on an 11-acre site on Nightshade Drive in Crystal River.
Work was performed by the county's Department of Public Works and Citrus County Mosquito Control.
The county commission on Dec. 6 voted to allow correction of the ongoing public nuisance after a request from Mosquito Control for the board’s help to stop a persistent mosquito problem on the property.
This cleanup is a direct result from a request from Mosquito Control to help alleviate a potentially dangerous situation from breeding mosquitoes in the area.
The illegal dump originated from a single individual who accumulated significant amounts of junk. The owner of the property died several years ago, and none of the trash was cleaned up.
County public information officer Lindsay Ubinas said that county workers removed and disposed of 277.75 tons of debris from the trash site. The total cost for the project was $27,235.99, she said.
