Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy and County Commissioner Winn Webb may be running for the same spot in the 2012 race for the sheriff's office.
Like many politicians running in 2012, Webb and Dawsy have played coy about announcing their intentions this far ahead of the elections.
Dawsy's "announcement" came in response to a question at Friday's Pubic Service Initiative Task Force meeting in Lecanto. Task force member Kennedy Smith asked if Dawsy would be around to implement any solution decided on by the county in its quest to merge law enforcement, fire services and EMS services into a single agency. Dawsy is co-chair of that body, along with County Commissioner Joe Meek.
Dawsy said that he might reconsider his decision to retire, but stopped short of saying he definitely would run again for the post in 2012.
Webb, also at the same meeting, but in the audience, told a local reporter that he was "99.9 percent" sure he would run for sheriff, whether or not Dawsy was in the race. Webb is an 18-year veteran of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, who retired and ran for County Commission, District 5.
