Citrus County Solid Waste Division will begin accepting waste in the Phase 3 cell of the landfill.
Phase 3 was constructed at a cost of $2.4 million and certified for use by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The new cell increases the county’s available disposal capacity by 800,000 cubic yards. According to the most recent landfill study, the county has approximately 15 years of disposal capacity remaining in the existing landfill. Future expansion of the landfill could provide secure solid waste disposal for an additional 35 years.
For more information, call 527-7670 during office hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or go to the county’s Web site at www.bocc.citrus.fl.us click on Departments; then Public Works; then Solid Waste Management.
