A Sunday morning fire in Homosassa completely destroyed a single-wide mobile home there.
No injuries were reported during the fire at 8483 W. Highland Ave. reported at 9:01 a.m., fire officials said.
Citrus County firefighters arrived within seven minutes of being dispatched, but found the mobile home was already 60 percent engulfed in flames and a power line down on the ground. The crews from Engine 31 (Homosassa) and Engine 71 (Rock Crusher) initiated an aggressive interior attack in order to keep the fire from spreading into other areas of the mobile home. This attack was successful in accomplishing that task.
Additional crews from the Kensington and Sugarmill Woods stations as well from the Crystal River Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to assist in establishing a water supply, fire suppression and overhaul of the scene. Nature Coast EMS also assisted on scene with monitoring of firefighters wellness. Progress Energy arrived and disconnected the power. Red Cross was called to assist the occupant with his needs.
The mobile home and contents suffered extensive fire damage. The estimate total damage cost is $59,000.
The fire is thought to be accidental, fire officials said.
