Video surveillance photos of Thursday's robbery of the Floral City branch of Brannen Bank.
FLORAL CITY - CCSO dispatchers received a call at 10:46 a.m. today about a robbery at the Floral City branch of Brannen Bank located at 7478 S. Florida Ave.
Two males entered the bank through the front door and brandished a weapon. They told everyone to get on the floor, then jumped the counter and began taking money from the cash drawers.
An undisclosed amount of money was stolen by the men, who exited the bank and fled in a vehicle. That vehicle, which was reported stolen from Altamonte Springs, was later found abandoned in the cemetery across the street from the bank. It's suspected, at least at this time, that another vehicle may have been involved.
No customers were inside the bank when the robbery occurred; however, six bank employees were present. No injuries were reported.
Witnesses described the suspects as two males of unknown race, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a lean build. The suspects were completely concealed, that is, hooded, masked, wearing gloves and carrying a firearm.
As a precaution, Floral City Elementary School was put on lockdown, plus area camps and day-care centers were notified.
A CodeRED alert (reverse 911) also was issued to nearby community members to be on the lookout and to report anyone suspicious in the area.
The Sheriff's Office responded with its helicopter, K-9 teams and ground units to search for the suspects. In addition, crime scene technicians were dispatched to process the scene.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact 911, or Crime Stoppers of Citrus County, Inc., by texting CITRUS plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES), clicking on www.crimestopperscitrus.com or calling 1-888-ANY-TIPS toll-free.
