Vince Cautero, the former Citrus County Development Services director for the county from 1990 until 1995, has been named as the first choice to replace the former director, Gary Maidhof, who was reassigned in January.
A five-member panel of senior county managers, including County Administrator Brad Thorpe, picked Cautero as the top candidate after interviews with the final dozen candidates, and Cautero will now go before the county commission on Sept. 14.
Cautero left the county to take a job leading the Collier County Division of Community Development and Environmental Services. He currently is the Planning and Development Director for Hendry County in South Florida.
He has a master’s degree in Urban Planning with a specialization in Land Use and Environmental Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Cautero served as the director of Citrus County’s Development Services for five years, and in the five years previous to that he had served variously as the county’s Planning Director, chief of Comprehensive planning and Planner II.
