Friday will be the last day on the job for Assistant Citrus County Administrator Eber Brown.
Brown, who had just returned from a vacation, was given his walking papers on Sunday after County Administrator Brad Thorpe asked for his resignation.
Thorpe hasn't said why he decided to let Brown go, but did say he had admiration for Brown. Brown has also said that Thorpe did not give him a reason when asking for Brown's resignation.
Brown has been at his $106,000 post since 2008, having been hired by Thorpe's predecessor, Anthony Schembri.
The county has not announced who will fill Brown post once he retires.
According to his biography, 30 years of service in the Army gave Brown the opportunity to serve in command and staff positions at various levels. His service included 25 years as a Master Army Aviator, two tours in Vietnam, Korea, Hawaii and various postings in the Continental United States.
Browns' military career culminated as the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Operational Airlift Command, which provided aviation support to all of the continental United States, and internationally. This support was provided by a fleet of 120 twin-engine aircraft, five executive jets and 45 rotary-wing aircraft, positioned at 16 hubs throughout the United States. This mission served the White House and members of Congress.
In 1995, he became the Director of the Criminal Justice Academy at the Withlacoochee Technical Institute. He served 10 years, providing support and training to law enforcement, correction and correctional probation communities.
In January 2005, Brown joined the Department of Juvenile Justice as the Assistant Secretary for Staff Development and Training until his departure in 2007.
In June 2008, Brown assumed the duties of Deputy County Administrator. He has been married for 44 years to Patricia, and has a daughter, Alicia.
