Flood warning issued for Citrus County

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Ruskin has issued a flood warning for small streams in Citrus County, as well as in southern Levy, northern Sumter counties.

The warning, which is in effect until noon on Saturday, includes the cities of Crystal River, Inverness, Homosassa Springs and Wildwood.

Military jets performing training maneuvers over Gulf of Mexico waters are being credited with creating sonic booms heard along Florida's west coast earlier this week, to include Pasco, Hillsborough, Marion, Levy, Hernando and Citrus counties.

Second day of rain sets in; rainfall totals mount

A second day of rain has set in on Citrus County today, with some rainfall totals now ranging from over 3 inches to more than 6 inches.

Bay area meteorologists are concerned about flooding in some counties. No flood warnings have been issued, however for Citrus County at this time.

Citrus County School bus transportation is now en route to pick up students from middle and high schools. Busses were detained due to inclement weather.

Landfill closes Thursday afternoon due to heavy downpour

Citrus County Solid Waste officials closed the county’s central Landfill on State Road 44 Thursday afternoon because of dangerous conditions due to extremely heavy afternoon downpours.

Lecanto Primary School project receives Community Education Grant

Lecanto Primary School will educate community members regarding efficient ways to conserve water in gardens or plantings around the home through a Community Education Grant from the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Through a workshop, residents will learn about water conservation and techniques for rain barrel installation and care.

A three-sided squabble has bubbled now for the past two years, and on Tuesday boiled over into the Citrus County commission's chambers.

FDOT webinar open to public Wednesday in Lecanto

The Citrus County Commission will host a Webinar for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) at 2 p.m. on March 10 in Room 166 at the Lecanto Government Building to help educate residents on the 2060 Florida Transportation Plan (FTP).

FDOT officials say the transportation plan is of major importance because it serves as the guiding transportation policy document for the entire state.
