Bartels
A Hernando man has been arrested by Citrus County deputies in connection with the shotgun death on June 9 of an 18-year-old Inverness youth.
Arrested and charged with manslaughter on Friday was Kenneth Clyde Bartels, 21, whose address is listed as "at large."
According to the Sheriff's Office arrest records, Austin Porter, 18, of Inverness was at a residence where Bartels was staying at the time the incident occurred. Deputies were told that Porter and some acquaintances were passing around a shotgun at 7089 N. Palmer Way in Hernando when, at some point, the gun fired. Porter suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
CCSO detectives’ investigation showed conflicting stories from people at the scene, as well as those people’s friends. After further investigation, CCSO deputies arrested Bartels. Bartels was arrested at the home of a friend in Citrus Springs.
Bartels was charged with one count of manslaughter, and bond was set at $10,000.
Detectives say the investigation is continuing.
