Just a few weeks after Marion County Commissioners and Ocala City Council members heard a presentation and plans for Port Citrus from Citrus County, Marion County leader and County Commissioner Charlie Stone got an up close and personal tour of the area being considered to host Port Citrus.

Commissioner Kenney had extended the invitation at a recent Florida Association of Counties meeting as the next step in the process of pursuing cooperative ventures with Marion County and their proposed “ inland port.“

Stone, along with County Commissioner and Port Authority Board member J.J. Kenney, County Administrator and Port Director Brad Thorpe, County Attorney and Port Attorney Richard Wesch, and Dixie Hollins, landowner of the area north of the canal, toured portions of the property which are being considered for development of Port Citrus.

Thorpe re-emphasized the benefits associated with the potential development of Port Citrus and the value of working jointly to develop future economic development opportunities between both Citrus and Marion communities.

Commissioner Stone says he’s looking forward to when the feasibility study is completed and hopes Marion and Citrus counties can work together to create more jobs for both regions in the future.
