A small Homosassa home was completely destroyed by fire on Thursday afternoon at 6360 S. Lima Ave., Homosassa.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue Division was dispatched at 3:49 p.m. to the structure fire at the less than 500-square-foot home. The first engine from Station No. 3 (Homosassa) arrived approximately 12 minutes later.
Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the small residential type building. The firefighters began a defensive attack, and the fire was controlled within 18 minutes of arriving on the scene.
Additional engines from the fire stations at Sugarmill Woods (We Oak Park Drive), Lecanto (Kensington Avenue), Connell Heights (North Rockcrusher Road), South Lecanto (South Lecanto Highway), Beverly Hill and Crystal River Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to provide additional staffing and water supply. Nature Coast EMS provided rehabilitation support.
The fire caused extensive damage to the small residence and its contents. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for the resident. The damages were estimated at approximately $30,000 for the structure and $15,000 for the contents, for a total of $45,000.
No one was hurt in the blaze. The firefighters completed the assignment approximately tow hours after arriving.
