GAINESVILLE - Col. Mike Johnson's decision to leave the Levy County Sheriff's Office after more than 20 years comes amid accusations that his 36-year old son, a Levy County deputy, has been given special consideration while being disciplined nine times in less than four years.
Sheriff Johnny Smith and Johnson reportedly met privately late Monday, presumably over the future of Johnson's son, Deputy Charles "Chuck" Johnson Jr.
Chuck Johnson was suspended after recent internal investigations determined he had been untruthful, had used his department-issued Taser on his dog and had used a racial slur. Previous internal investigations determined he had violated other departmental policies.
