CFCC's Lecanto campus to host local artists during October

Central Florida Community College will host the work of five local artists at the Citrus Campus during October.

Jeannette Berndsen, Marian Fox, Susi LaForsch, Ana Sandoval and Kim Shields will exhibit an array of select fine art, each with their own unique style, in a variety of subjects.

The exhibit will be displayed Oct. 5-30 in the upstairs exhibition hall in Building L2, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto.

An opening reception with light refreshments and classical guitar by Ben Medrano will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8. There is no charge to attend the reception or exhibition, which are made possible by the CFCC Foundation and the CFCC Institute for Community Advancement.

Jeannette Berndsen is a Hernando artist originally from the Netherlands. Her work has been in exhibits in The Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Las Vegas, and last year Fort Lauderdale, New York, Atlanta, Argentina, Italy and Germany. She uses bright, vivid oil paints to celebrate the splendor of gardens, flowers and trees in a technique called Graphic Impressionism.

Marian Fox works in a variety of media, though she prefers working in oils. Her art often draws on her extensive scholarly research and professorial experiences through the use of symbolism and visual references to mythology and the art of other cultures. Her paintings, prints, photographs and fine crafts are represented in both private and public collections. She resides in Hernando.

Susi LaForsch is a full-time artist working from her studio in Hernando. Her work is included in private collections throughout the United States and Europe. Large acrylics on canvas are her preferred medium, and she uses the female figure as a way of addressing issues from addiction to war.

Anna Sandoval was born near Rome, Italy, and a love for the arts has allowed her nature of expression to emerge through painting. Her paintings convey love for nature and she views color not as static but rather as a continuous display of emotions. She resides in Tampa.

Kim Shields was raised in West Palm Beach and has lived in Citrus County since 1989. He can often be found outdoors painting to capture the true effects of color and light that Citrus County's natural settings and faces have to offer. He primarily works with oil on canvas and in recent years has concentrated on portraiture.

Exhibit hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. For information, contact CFCC Associate Professor of Visual Arts Michele Wirt at 352-746-6721, ext. 6131. To learn about other events at CFCC, visit www.CF.edu.
