Bright House Networks has notified Citrus County that as of June 14 it will change the frequency it uses to deliver county government channel 622, which carries the county commission meetings.
That means some viewers – those who don’t have converter boxes from Bright House -- may lose the channel.
Bright House said the change will affect only customers who receive cable programming directly through digital-ready TVs, which most modern TVs are, without using a digital set-top converter box.
A digital-ready TV, which has a QAM tuner, lets TVs receive an unencrypted digital cable signal TV through a cable, usually the lower tier of channels. Higher tiers are encrypted, have added costs and require a converter box. There will be no change for those who use the converter boxes.
Those customers who get 622 without the converter box, however, will not be able to view some programming after the change until they “rescan” their digital-ready television, according to Bright House.
Once the TV is rescanned, however, the channels will reappear on the same channel as before, the company said. Bright House said customers can refer to the TV’s instructions and documentation or the onscreen menu/settings to rescan or auto-program their sets to configure for the changes.
