The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office has received information about yet another in a long line of telephone scams that appears to be targeting seniors in the community.
Scammers apparently are calling elderly women and claiming they’re from their banking institution. Then the potential victims are asked to provide their account numbers or other personal banking information for verification purposes. In every instance, the scammer has named the bank where the targeted victim actually conducts her banking transactions.
Today’s scammers are not only prolific, but cagey, sophisticated and very smooth as well. CCSO financial crimes detectives are reminding citizens that they will never receive a legitimate call from their bank asking them for this kind of information. Therefore, it’s highly important that citizens never provide their personal banking information during a call that’s clearly fraudulent in nature.
If you believe you may have suffered financial loss as a result of this particular telephone scam, please report it to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office by calling 726-1121.
