All lanes of State Road 44 are now completely open to all westbound and eastbound traffic.
The east and west section had been closed to traffic earlier in the day for several hours.
Citrus County dispatchers got a call around 11:10 this morning about power lines down across all lanes of State Road 44 just east of the entrance to the landfill. Although it hasn’t been confirmed as yet, it appears that the bucket of a backhoe hit the power lines and brought them down. A small brushfire ensued.
The Florida Highway Patrol, meanwhile, is investigating the incident.
