Citrus County firefighters were called out to put out a mobile home fire shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday in Hernando.
The home was located at 5582 Irving Park Ave., owned by Peggy See and occupied by John Baxter.
Responding units found fire in the corner of a double-wide mobile home that was about 25 percent involved in flames. The fire spread rapidly through the home, both overhead and below the floor. Within minutes, the fire had grown to about 90 percent, which made interior operations difficult, the fire report said. Crews were then pulled out. The fire was brought under control by 4:25 p.m.
Several pets, including ferrets, a hamster and bird were lost in the fire. There were no other injuries reported.
The Red Cross was called on to assist the family, who had lost all their belongings in the fire. The Nature Coast EMS and Citrus County Fire Rescue Rehab Unit were on scene to provide rehabilitation service for firefighters on the scene.
The State Fire Marshal was notified to determine the cause of the fire, although it is not suspicious at this time, fire officials said.
Damage was described as moderate to heavy, confined to 25 percent of the roof and attic area, and light to moderate smoke and water damage 50 percent of the remainder of structure. The dollar value of the loss was set at $25,000 for the home, and $10,000 to its contents.
