OCALA - Tickets go on sale today for a John Travolta movie screening and fundraiser that will benefit Central Florida Community College and other community organizations.
The Jett Travolta Endowed Memorial Scholarship will be established at the CFCC Foundation with a portion of proceeds from the benefit, which will feature Travolta’s new film, “From Paris With Love.”
Tickets are $300 and can be purchased at the CFCC Foundation, located in the Enterprise Center at 3001 S.W. College Road, Ocala; online at www.CFCCfoundation.org/FromParisWithLove.htm; or by calling 352-873-5808.
CFCC is helping to coordinate the event, which begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, at Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club. Guests will be treated to dinner, photos with Travolta and wife, Kelly Preston, a silent auction as well as a live auction, French wine bar and cash bar. Entertainment will include mimes, a charcoal artist, CFCC string quartet, pianist and vocalist with guitar and bass accompaniment.
There will also be a sponsor/VIP reception and recognition. The excitement continues at Regal 16 Cinemas, 2801 S.W. 27th Ave. in Ocala, with a 9:15 viewing of the movie and popcorn.
“The Jett Travolta Endowed Memorial Scholarship at Central Florida Community College will forever stand as a reminder of the Travolta family's commitment to education, their community and most importantly their son, Jett," said Joan Stearns, vice president of Institutional Advancement for the college. "Now more than ever, giving students the gift of opportunity that comes with access to education makes a difference to us all."
As a CFCC Foundation endowment, Jett's scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving fine arts student who may not have otherwise had the resources to pursue a college education.
“The college considers it a privilege to be associated with the Travolta tradition of making a difference and changing lives," said Dr. Charles Dassance, CFCC president. "It's a tradition that will now be passed on to students at CFCC for generations to come."
This is the fourth movie screening/fundraiser that the Travolta family has hosted in the Ocala community. In addition to the Central Florida Community College Jett Travolta Scholarship, this event will benefit Heroes' Health Fund-Ocala Detoxification Project for Firefighters and Rescue Workers; The Marion County Sheriff's Office Foundation; and Ocala Police Department.
