Winter Park -- Authorities in Florida are baffled by an act of violence over the weekend.
Police say Jeramie Trespalacios was dressed as the Sesame Street character Elmo, when he was attacked by another man, without warning.
"This whole thing that happened is kind of intense," said Trespalacios.
Last weekend, while performing as Sesame Street's Elmo at a store in Florida, Trespalacios walked down to a neighboring music store, still dressed head-to-toe in costume. That's when the character says he was assaulted by an agitated customer who didn't say a word.
Barely able to see out of the Elmo mask, Trespalacios could not brace himself for what would happen next as the man started smacking and punching him. "I took off my mask, immediately threw it on the ground, really not caring at all, 'cuz I was trying to protect myself. And I took off my gloves real quick, threw them down, and I was ready."
According to Trespalacios, the attacker then charged straight at him, so he tossed the attacker into a display case.
