Citrus County Commissioner Joe Meek, District 3, has announced that he will run for re-election during the next election cycle.
Meek said he is running on his record of accomplishments since he was first elected in 2008.
"I have fought to make major changes in how your local government operates. Your local government now has one of the lowest tax rates in the state and spends less money per person on government expenditures than almost any
other county in Florida," Meek said.
"Most importantly, we have managed to improve the level of core services to our citizens while reducing our costs. From reducing the county budget by $52.5 million since 2008, to addressing public safety issues, to working on improving our environment, I have worked hard to have a positive impact on the place that I love."
Meek also notes that he was instrumental, together with other county commissioners, in modifying county rules and regulations to make it easier to operate and open a business, to going after business and industry to expand and move to the county is moving forward.
"We have finally positioned ourselves for success," Meek said, "and I would like to continue to work on these initiatives to see them through to fruition. We must continue to move forward as a county and focus on our budget, our environment and quality of life, and on promoting a strong economy and job creation for the future of our community."
