The recommendation of the committee was for Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsey to prepare a transition plan for consolidation of public safety services and present it to the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners.
The plan is for the county to consolidate the Sheriff's Office and Fire Services under one agency - run by the Sheriff's Office. To accomplish such a move in the upcoming fiscal year, the commission would need to have the plan before June 1.
The county commission has yet to deal with the $1 million budget shortfall that Fire Services has been experiencing.
Also under the task force plan, Emergency Medical Services would remain as it is, and not be included in with consolidation.
