CFCC Ocala to kick off 18th year of Senior Institute

OCALA - The Central Florida Community College Senior Institute will kick off its 18th year with an open house on Friday, Oct. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College.

The Senior Institute is the learning component of the college's Pathways program.

In addition to a variety of cultural and community activities, institute members enjoy regular CFCC student status, selecting from college-level courses without the requirement of homework and tests. Classes generally meet four to six times for two to three hours each during the day at CFCC's Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College
Road.

Annual membership is $100 and enables the participant to select from dozens of courses for a fee of only $5 per course. Books or supplies, which are required for some classes, must be purchased separately.

At the open house on Oct. 2, seniors will have an opportunity to meet instructors, enjoy refreshments, and learn about the courses including Computer Tuning and Maintaining, Digital Imaging with Elements and Photoshop, Great Conversations Through Literature, Introduction to Buying and Selling on eBay, Introduction to the History of Western Art, Spanish for Travelers, Techniques for Emotional Freedom, and more. The Appleton Museum is located at 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.

The Senior Institute was founded to promote lifelong learning, quality leisure time and social interaction. It has grown from a handful of individuals to more than 390 members. For more information about the institute, call 352-291-4444.

These programs are offered as part of the Plus 50 Initiative of CFCC, the American Association of Community Colleges and the Atlantic Philanthropies. Pathways is located at the CFCC Ewers Century Center, Room 105, at the Ocala Campus, across from the Paddock Mall.
