CFCC Performing Arts Series presents 'Ed Asner as FDR' on Nov. 22 in Lecanto

LECANTO - Central Florida Community College will present "Ed Asner as FDR" on Nov. 22.

The solo performance drama is based on Dore Schary's Broadway hit "Sunrise at Campobello" and chronicles Franklin Delano Roosevelt's White House years.

The Performing Arts Series Event is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, at Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto, 3810 W. Educational Path. Tickets are $25 to $27 and can be purchased by calling 352-854-2322, Ext. 1416. A performance in Ocala on Monday, Nov. 23, is sold out.

"Ed Asner as FDR" brings to life issues faced by our country not only during the Great Depression and World War II, but also by contemporary American society. Asner, who has enjoyed a successful TV, film and voice acting career, is the recipient of seven Emmy Awards ("Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Lou Grant"), 16 Emmy nominations and five Golden Globe Awards. He is a member of the TV Academy Hall of Fame, and most recently won accolades for his role in the animated film "Up!"

"We are excited to present a performance with so many dimensions," said Dr. Jennifer Fryns, director of Visual and Performing Arts. "We have an accomplished actor portraying a president's efforts to guide his administration during a compelling and very relevant era of our nation's history."
