Six Citrus County residents have been arrested following extensive investigations by the Sheriff's Office.
The investigations were done by the CCSO's Tactical Impact Unit and Pharmacy Diversion unit.
CCSO spokesperson Gail Tierney said on Wednesday that the arrests range from doctor shopping (that is, seeing more than one doctor to illegally obtain controlled substances) to trafficking in hydrocodone. Some of the suspects arrested dealt not only in pills, but also sold cocaine and other substances. Many of them were selling their narcotics for profit and have been doing so for a while, Tierney said.
Below is a list of those who were arrested.
- Henry J. Folsom, 57, of Beverly Hills. He was charged with trafficking in hydrocodone more than 4 grams; sale of a controlled substance; and possession of a controlled substance. Folsom's total bond was set at $45,000.
- Samuel Stevenson, 31, of Crystal River. He was charged with the sale of oxycodone and the possession of oxycodone. Stevenson's total bond was set at $15,000.
- David Curry, 40, of Homosassa. He was charged with withholding information from a practitioner. Curry's total bond was set at $5,000.
- Sarah Buske, 24, of Crystal River. Buske was charged with trafficking in oxycodone over 4 grams; sale of a controlled substance (oxycodone ) - 3 counts; possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) - 4 counts; sale of a controlled substance (cocaine) - 3 counts; and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) - 3 counts. Buske's total bond was set at $125,000.
- David Allen Smith, 54, of Homosasa. Smith was charged with trafficking in oxycodone over 4 grams; conspiracy to commit sale of a controlled substance (oxycodone); sale of a controlled substance (oxycodone) - 2 counts; and possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) - 2 counts. His total bond was set at $65,000.
- James Robert Marino, 22, of Homosassa. Marino was charged with sale of a controlled substance (oxycodone) and possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone). His total bond was set at $15,000.
"The Pharmacy Diversion unit intends to send a clear message that it will not tolerate ANYONE trying to obtain, possess, sell or traffic in prescription narcotics illegally in Citrus County," Tierney said.
With the introduction of Florida’s new prescription drug monitoring program E-FORCSE (or Electronic - Florida Online Reporting of Controlled Substances Evaluation), it’s easier than ever to keep tabs on who is doctor shopping, Tierney said. "Doctors, pharmacists and law enforcement can now log on and see what doctors the patients are seeing and what drugs they are receiving."
The CCSO has been working closely with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure that anyone who’s caught will be prosecuted to the fullest extent, Tierney said.
