CCSO surveillance photo of the robbery of a gas station convenience store in Hernando

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office has released surveillance photos of a robbery early this morning at a gas station convenience store in Hernando.

The robbery occurred sometime near midnight at the Kangaroo Express, 8486 N. Carl G. Rose Highway. by the State Road 200 bridge.

Earlier today, CCSO investigators interviewed the clerks, and were told that a man entered the store and walked toward the back of the store, where they were cleaning up. Clerks also told deputies the man alternately pointed a firearm at their heads while demanding all the money in the register in the front of the store.

The man fled the store after being handed a sum of cash in a southeasterly direction. It is not known if a vehicle was involved, the CCSO said.

No one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He has blue eyes, and his brown hair is buzz-cut. The subject was wearing blue jean shorts, white and blue tennis shoes, plus a black sweatshirt-type hoodie that was on backwards, so the hood covered his face. Holes had been cut out, allowing the man to see and speak. He also was wearing gloves.

A K-9 team attempted to track the man, while the Sheriff’s Office helicopter searched from the air. Crime scene technicians also processed the scene for any viable physical evidence.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call 911 or 726-1121 right away. Or contact Crime Stoppers of Citrus County, Inc.
