The toddler who nearly drowned on Tuesday is doing better after nearly drowning in the family in-ground pool.

Two-year-old Hayliegh O’Kelley’s condition improved greatly today at Shands in Gainesville, where she was rushed after her mom performed CPR on her and EMS stabilized her.

Hayliegh’s mother, Tiffany Rose, is credited with finding the toddler, taking her from the water and administering CPR until EMS personnel arrived.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office received a call on Tuesday at 4:55 p.m. and help was quickly sent to the scene. The mother told arriving personnel that she had just seen Hayliegh in the bathroom, but found her face down in the family’s pool a moment later.

Tiffany said that while performing CPR on the toddler, the little girl suddenly began breathing on her own. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Gail Tierney said that when EMS arrived on scene and began administering aid to the child, the youngster even cried a little bit.

Hayliegh was airlifted to Shands in Gainesville for further treatment, and her prognosis for a complete recovery is said to be very good.
