A fire on Tuesday in Homosassa had Citrus County firefighters battling fire in structures and in the brush.
Firefighters were dispatched at 11:45 a.m. to 5045 W. Meadow St., where they found an approximately 1,000-square-foot structure was on fire, with an approximately 1-acre brush fire moving toward other structures.
According to the fire report, approximately 30 minutes after arriving, firefighters reported the brush fire as contained, which allowed the firefighters to concentrate on extinguishing the severely damaged structures. The fire caused extensive damage to the storage shed buildings (one approximately 1,000 square feet and another 150-square-foot). Superficial damage occurred to the primary residence on the property.
Total damages to the structures and the contents of the structures was estimated at $27,000. Fire and smoke damage was confined to the structures of origin. The residence sustained approximately $5,000 structural damage. The other structures sustained approximately $22,000 in collective damages (structural and contents).
The Division of Forestry was requested for an investigation. No one was hurt in the blaze, and firefighters completed the assignment approximately three hours after arriving.
