Brathwaite, left, and Ellis
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office made arrests on Monday in connection with two separate incidents involving sex offenses against young girls.
The first arrest involved offenses against a 14-year-old Citrus Springs girl, and the second arrest involved offenses against two girls, ages 13 and 15, both of whom live in Brooksville.
Arrested were Anthony Brathwaite, 18, of Citrus Springs, and Thomas Andrew Ellis, 11705 S. Pleasant Grove Road, Floral City. Ellis is a convicted sexual predator.
Brathwaite
According to the arrest report, Brathwaite is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl from December 2009 through this month. The girl, who was in a local hospital at the time, first alerted the Sheriff's Office to the activity, and told deputies she was concerned she had become pregnant.
The juvenile told deputies Brathwaite had begun having sex with her in Brooklyn, N.Y.. She said she "went with it" because Brathwaite would not listen to her when she told him "no." She also said he would lock her in her bedroom, but that he would pick the lock and come into her room anyway.
The youth was 13 years old when she arrived in Florida, and had just turned 14 when she reported the activity. She said Brathwaite did not use a condom during any of the incidents.
The girl said she had talked with Brathwaite on the day she alerted the Sheriff's Office, and that he admitted he had "made mistakes," should have worn a condom and urged her to "kill it," when referring to the pregnancy and possible baby.
When interviewed by investigators, the arrest report says, Brathwaite, who was already in the county jail, admitted to having intercourse with the girl at least three times this year in her bedroom. He denied forcing the girl to participate in any sexual activity.
Brathwaite was charged with three counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a person 12 to 16 years old, and bond was set at $15,000.
Ellis
In the second arrest, Sheriff's Office deputies two girls, who were under 12 years old at the time, told CCSO deputies that Thomas Andrew Ellis touched their private areas, and that he did so on more than one occasion.
The oldest of the girls told deputies that one such occasion was when she was attending elementary school. The younger girl said Ellis had fondled her over her clothing when she was about 6 years old. Both girls said that Ellis this activity also occurred at Ellis' home.
According to the arrest report, Ellis had told an adult about the sexual contact, and had provided the girls' names and ages to that person.
Ellis, who is a convicted sexual offender, was contacted. The arrest report notes that Ellis' previous victims were also under 12 years old, and that the case was investigated in 2009 by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
When questioned, Ellis refused to speak with the investigator, and asked for a lawyer.
Ellis was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious molestation, and bond was set at none.
