Citrus County Sheriff's Office deputies responded around 3:30 p.m. today to a domestic disturbance at 6439 W. Riverbend Road that ended in what appears to be a murder-suicide.
The older male and female co-habitants suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
Friends of the couple were on scene when the shootings occurred. The male friend received non-life-threatening injuries when he attempted to intervene, and was airlifted to Shands in Gainesville as a precaution. He does not appear to have been shot, and it is not known at this time how he came to be injured.
At some point, the two people who died will be transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Leesburg for autopsy.
Next of kin has yet to be notified.
CCSO crime scene technicians are currently processing the scene, and detectives are interviewing neighbors and witnesses.
