The Citrus County Sheriff's Office today arrested two Homosassa men in connection with a meth lab investigation.

Arrested were Roger Carl Smith Jr., 37, of 6429 W. Folger Court and Dana William Jowers, 32, of 7515 W. Miss Maggie Drive.

CCSO deputies had received a number of reports that Smith had been involved in the manufacture of methamphetamines. A deputy went to the Folger Court address and was invited by Smith's brother to look around the property. During the walk-around, the deputy found a soda bottle which had been fashioned into a gas generator, an apparatus used in the final stages of methamphetamines.

After obtaining a search warrant, deputies returned to the home, and all occupants of the home, including Smith, were moved into the yard. After being read his rights, Smith told a deputy the lab was his, and that his brother and his brother's wife knew nothing about it.

He also told the deputy where all the materials were that were used to produce the meth, the majority of which was found in his bedroom inside the home.

Also during questioning, Smith said that he and Jowers had entered into an agreement to buy another chemical in Crystal River that would be used in the "cook." After it was cooked, Smith said, they would share the final product.

Jowers, who was also present during the investigation, was read his rights and questioned after giving his consent. He told a deputy he had bought the chemical as agreed, and had entered into the agreement. He denied participating in the cook, and that he had stayed inside the home during the cooking process. He said he and Smith shared the meth once it was done.

Both men were arrested and taken to the county jail.

Smith was charged on five counts related to the manufacture of the meth, including criminal conspiracy. His bond was set at $55,000.

Jowers was charged on two counts related to the incident, also including criminal conspiracy.
